But you have to at least recognise Vietnam as a growing competitor to Thailand in the region in everything from Tourism to various other industries (rice, tech, shoes, garment etc) and that this new legislation might very well be seen as a big advantage for potential investors? When they consider where to set up shop in SEA.
I think this is really big news actually.

Indeed. It's (yet another) wakeup call to Thailand and Phuket to get its act together.

Whilst I completely agree that the absolutely terrible way the Rohingya refugees are being treated is a tragedy and it's sad that governments need to be shamed into action by the media I believe you do the cause no good at all by giving voice to these so called Brit's protesting in Yorkshire. These racists will to a man will be 'British Muslims' who would at best be silent if the victims were Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhist or anyone else. They will not condemn the Tunisia or the Charlie Hebdo shootings and you won't find them protesting about the situation in Zimbabwe or anywhere else where nasty things are going on. They (among others) are the very people that condemn Britons colonial past but when it suits them want get involved in other sovereign countries affairs.

Editor Comment:

We'll take our lead as always from local media reports who seem to have a broader respect for the protesters than you do, Stuart. I would be surprised if there weren't non-Muslims among the protesters as well. You seem to have problems with accepting freedom of choice and speech among British citizens from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Many people have a different outlook and do not pigeonhole people on the basis of religion or race - that intolerance is the cause of most of the world's problems. If they are ''racists,'' what are you? A respectful, tolerant, fellow citizen?
