Once I was flying from Punta Cana in Dominican Republic back home via Paris; good that I checked a label that they attached to my luggage - it stated "to HoChiMin" ..

Wrong Sue. A luggage tag for Ho Chi Minh would have the airport code SGN. As the flight number is also printed on the bag tag, the machine reader would have rejected both Ho Chi Minh and SGN.

Pete, but the reader would still have sent Sue in the right direction? After all it did have Sue tagged as Ho and him. What's confusing about that?

Pete,

exactly - I got luggage tags attached that stated airport of destination Ho Chi Min. I wonder if Air France had any flight from Punta Cana to Ho Chi Min.

Don't ask me how their system works , I guess there was some input by hand.

I was checking bags just up to Paris CDG. Good that I noticed that right at check-in desk.

@Herbert: Sue is a super egotistical world traveller who just can't help mentioning famous or important people as associates in attempting to impress others. Can't even imagine what she/it is doing on Phuket. However a likely outcome is that she/it will run out of Roubles soon and will be gone.
