PHUKET: Boathouse on Kata Beach, Phuket's iconic boutique resort and restaurant, has recently been recognised with three prestigious national and international awards.
The Boathouse claimed The Wine Spectator ''Best of Award of Excellence 2013,'' Thailand Wine List of the Year 2013's ''Best Cellar Selection'' and TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2013.
The Wine Spectator Awards recognise restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.
There are three tiers of awards, with individualised criteria. Boathouse Wine & Grill has been distinguished with prestigious Wine Spectator Awards since 1995, and has also been awarded with the Wine Spectator ''Best of Award of Excellence'' every year since 2006, making this year's recognition the eighth consecutive award in this category.
Boathouse Wine & Grill boasts an impressive
beach front wine cellar with over 800 unique labels from more than 17 New and Old World winemaking countries.
The ''Best of Award of Excellence'' is created to give special recognition to restaurants that clearly exceed the requirements of the Award of Excellence.
These lists typically offer 400 or more selections, along with superior presentation, and display either vintage depth, with several vertical offerings of top wines, or excellent breadth across several wine regions.
There are only 850 restaurants in the world that received this award in 2013.
Underlining its extensive and reputable cellar, Boathouse Wine & Grill has also garnered the ''Best Cellar Selection'' award in the national category from the Wine List of the Year Thailand competition, which recognises efforts and expertise of hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafes and wine bars in the development of their wine lists and overall contribution to wine culture in Thailand.
The competition is open to all food and beverage establishments with wine lists, and is judged by world class wine industry figure Peter Scudamore-Smith, Master of Wine.
This is the second year Boathouse Wine & Grill received an award from Wine List of the Year Thailand, having earned the ''Best Restaurant List'' in the national category in 2012.
Cumulating the latest award list for Boathouse Wine & Grill, is the TripAdvisor's 2013 Travelers' Choice Restaurants award, which places the restaurant amongst the top five fine-dining venues in Thailand.
TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site with more than 260 million unique monthly visitors, honors travelers' favorite fine-dining establishments worldwide, based on millions of diners' reviews and opinions.
