Phuket's Billion Baht Medical Hub Targets Japanese

Sunday, April 10, 2011
A ONE BILLION baht medical hub is being planned for 136 rai at Pa Klok, on Phuket's east. The project, Villa Medica Phuket, will be for Japanese visitors only.

A consortium led by Dr Thaweesak Netwong, former Director of Phuket's Patong Hospital, and backed by other doctors is behind the development.

Phase I will include rooms for health assessment, x-rays, six treatment rooms and two operating theatres. Phase II will include a meeting room, an activities room, an office and a canteen.

Accommodated in villas, the patients will be long-term, staying for six months or a year at 100,000 baht to 150,000 baht a month. Retirees will be the target.

If the project is successful, other hubs may be developed for other nationalities, Phuketwan has been told.

Villa Medica Phuket could be open late this year or early in 2011, the developers say.
