Phuket Tourists Face AirCon-Free Airport

Phuket Tourists Face AirCon-Free Airport

Tuesday, April 5, 2011
PHUKET International Airport was without air conditioning for five hours today as the Electricity Office replaced cables. The aircon went down at 9am and was due to be restored at 2pm.

A backup generator was available to maintain essential services but not sufficient to power the airconditioning.

Departing and arriving tourists noted staff in many parts of the airport using hand-held fans.

There were no immediate reports of conditions in the Immigration departure and arrival halls, where delays at times can mean tourists have to spend 40 minutes or more queuing.

Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. Someone needs firing. Probably the same person who is reluctant to put in the "snake" queuing system for check in and immigration.

40 minutes and the rest to clear immigration.... Last week I flew in from Hong Kong on a night flight and spent 1 hr waiting to clear immigration. Not sure why the current set up is so slow, as many other airports in the region that handle large numbers of arrivals seem to process immigration way more efficiently.
