The bus crashed into the front door of one house and damaged a second

Phuket Tourist Bus Crashes into Houses near Patong Hill: Driver Flees

Wednesday, February 8, 2012
PHUKET: A Phuket tourist bus carrying visitors from China to Patong for a night out crashed into houses at the base of Patong Hill this evening.

The driver of the double-decker VIP bus fled the scene in Nanai Road. All 19 passengers on the Classic Tours trip were taken to hospital but only two women required further treatment, Yu Bin and Wang Chenrut.

The busload of tourists was believed to have set off from the Royal Phuket City Hotel for a night out in Patong but crashed at 6.58pm.

Owner of one of the houses, Wanna Dorkdin, 37, said it was fortunate that she was not at home. ''A neighbor called to tell me my house had been struck,'' she said.

The bus hit a pickup, two motorcycles and a car, but narrowly missed a power pole.

Passengers were taken back to the Royal Phuket City Hotel in Phuket City by minibuses.

Crashes by buses going over Patong Hill occur mostly on the downhill slope going into Patong.

Brake failure, you mean the driver failed to excersise due caution again. Did he run away as ussual?

Nanai Rd ? I think you mean Pisit Koranee Rd, unless they were coming down Hasip Pee Rd at the southern end of Nanai Rd.

The Prabaramee Rd from Kathu over Patong Hill does not connect directly with Nanai Rd.

Drivers fleeing the scene is far too common. It would be interesting to know if he was properly licensed. I call for Company Directors to be held liable for the licensing of drivers and making sure their vehicles adhere to a proper maintenance schedule. Maybe the driver was tired as he appears to have driven visitors from China to Patong for a night out. That's one heck of a long way for a night out in Patong..........

Local highly skilled and trained drivers score yet again at least this time no one was killed.I do hope the policy of allowing these criminal drivers to hand themselves in days after the event will not apply in this case, arrest him for leaving the scene of an accident and immediately drink and drug test him before the intoxicants have a chance to leave his system, unlike last weeks crash where the criminal driver who killed five innocents was allowed to roam free for days before he eventually surrendered. It's certainly not the first time this policy has been employed by the police in a multitude of case types last year it was even used in a shooting case get a grip please and arrest these people on the spot they'renot just killing farangs they are killing Thais as well.

The government should bring in prison sentences for drivers who run away from the scene of a crime. This is happening so often. Is the start of nanai road just by the temple? I thought nanai road started the other side of sai namyen road?

I have noticed that bus drivers often flee from accidents.

Check this video of the incident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-bpGdrZSr0&feature=youtu.be

yes he did run away, any competent driver would have down geared and/or used the emergency brake, but we all know who failed, Phuket is a small island with a very big problem with buses.

Fleeing the scene?
Possibly a better course of action than stay and get beaten to a pulp by the locals.

Check out the video. Notice the motorbike thrown across the road. Its lights are on and it appears to be dragged into view from around the corner, trapped under the bus, and then thrown out. What happened to the rider? Very close call!

Thank god. So many close calls. The little kid, the motorbikes just seconds before... the driver is lucky to not have killed a lot of people.
