The tourists who were lost near Phuket's Bang Pae waterfall at dusk

Phuket Searchers Lead Lost Tourists to Safety After Night Hunt in Park

Sunday, June 14, 2015
PHUKET: Two Turkish tourists were led to safety by Phuket rescuers after being lost in darkness in the large park around Bang Pae waterfall.

The couple walked in about 2pm and emerged after being found by searchers about 10.30pm.

While the pair were too embarrassed to give their names, they were clearly grateful for the efforts of Thalang police and volunteers, park rangers and others who went looking for them four hours earlier when they failed to emerge before nightfall.

The couple, staying at a Patong resort, declined to be taken to hospital for a checkup and headed back to their resort.

While signposting has been improved in the area around the waterfall and the nearby Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre, tourists still sometimes bercome disoriented.

Once darkness falls, their safety is at risk.

All Phuket Hashers know well how to come back to the lagger in thick forests as we do it every Saturday (story @ http://www.phuket-hhh.com/).
Khao Prataew National Park can be crossed from west to east or vice-versa within one and half hour easily.

Why is it so bad to stay out all night in the tropics? Why is their safety at risk? Ed, please don't be too patronsing when replying you know I am superior, haha.

Without a torch in darkness, people can stumble off pathways into ravines and be badly hurt, even killed. If you think you are superior, then that must be true, Not Sue.

If that is the case why don't they pass out rechargeable torches and let people stay out all night and have some fun, camping etc Aussie style. No funds, too easy increase the entrance fee! Thailand has two tier pricing which is probably another reason tourists are not coming as it is insulting!!!! Imagine double pricing in London, NY etc all foreginers pay much more just wrong, greedy! Another quiet night last night in Southern Phuket! I wonder why!

The topic is tourism safety and the idea of handing out torches to people going for walks . . . only you would enjoy it. Doesn't happen on day walks in Australia. Tourists are still coming, but their needs have changed.

seems they need better marked paths..
