The former crown prince of Nepal, Paras Shah, on bail from Phuket

Phuket Riddle of Former Nepal Royal and Drugs Arrest

Tuesday, November 27, 2012
PHUKET: Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of the former crown prince of Nepal, Paras Shah, who is reported to be on bail awaiting trial on a charge of possession of marijuana on Phuket.

He is said to have spent a night in Phuket Prison or a police cell after being arrested and surrendering his passport on October 23.

According to reports in Nepal, the former crown prince was arrested with 3.4 grams of marijuana.

He is said to have been released on 10,000 baht bail. The former crown prince would be required to appear in court every 12 days until his trial.

It has been also revealed, say reports in Nepal, that Pasar has purchased an apartment on Phuket and is living with his Thai girlfriend in Bangkok.

Thai authorities take a zero tolerance approach to drugs. Thai police frown upon people caught in possession of quantities of drugs that would not bring a severe penalty in other countries.

More than 80 percent of the inmates in Phuket Prison are there serving sentences for drugs or awaiting trial.

Full title Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev, the crown prince was heir to the throne of Nepal from 2001 until the monarchy was abolished in 2008.

He was hailed as a hero for saving several lives during the royal massacre of 2001 when King Birendra and most of the royal family - including the then crown price Dipendra - were slaughtered.

Prince Dipendra allegedly killed nine members of his family and himself.

Actually the possession of marijuana in small quantities may be serious for foreigners but for Thais is it normally settled with a small fine - If you are caught with marijuana however on Koh Phangan history shows - or at the least the series 'Big Trouble in Tourist Thailnd'it will cost you min 25,000 to 50,000 baht to avoid a long remand for trail -when the arrested person will be fined about 5000

If it were only true that "Thai authorities take a zero tolerance" Patong beach would not have so many Jet Skis. I get asked more about Marijuana than I do about renting a jet ski.
In my country when they arrest someone with drugs they take your possessions also. If they did that in Phuket there would be no jet skis to rent.

ED,

Not sure what Ted is on about. Seems to be same same. I'm sure somebody would give a negative comment if your story included all that fluff.

Ted is clearly impressed if something ''looks'' real.

Fortunately for non-profit organisations like this one, most people don't judge their Christmas presents by the wrapping paper. Speaking of putting hands in pockets, Alan, where is your subscription?
