Nok Air flies Internet: a budget airline allows Phuket passengers to connect

Phuket Passengers Gain Wi-Fi While Flying: Nok Air Makes It Game On

Tuesday, September 23, 2014
PHUKET: Journalists and other passengers on board Nok Air flight DD7510 from Bangkok's Don Muang International Airport to Phuket were the first to use a new service and access the internet while airborne.

Thai satellite operator Thaicom has launched satellite-based in-flight connectivity services.

Thaicom is now enabling Nok Air's passengers to receive broadband internet via Wi-Fi and satellite, giving them access for web browsing, sending and receiving emails, using social media and reading the news.

The agreement with Nok Air is initially for six aircraft, with a plan to expand the service to the whole fleet of 22 aircraft within three years. With 48,000 flights per year, six million Nok Air passengers could get access to the service.

The service is developed in partnership with Global Eagle Entertainment, a provider of satellite-based in-flight entertainment and connectivity services to commercial passenger aircraft.

Etihad Airways have wi-fi on their long haul fleet, but it doesn't come cheap at US$9.50 for 2 hours on mobile and US$12.00 for 2 hours on a laptop.
I see Nok Air conveniently don't quote the cost.

I seriously hope that use of earphones is compulsory.

Thai airways pricing for their wifi is as follows:

Prices for Wi-Fi Packages

Smart Phone Package 3 MB = USD 4.50
10 MB = USD 14.50
Laptop/iPad Package 10 MB = USD 14.50
20 MB = USD 28.50

Probably find NokAir is similar

Why be so sceptical and negative? Today's Bangkok Post reports: Nok Air will begin offering what it claims to be the first free in-flight broadband connectivity in Asia for passengers.

Who was being negative or sceptical?

NokAir is owned by Thai airways, so it could be logical for them to follow the same pricing structure. As was pointed out by Pete, the pricing wasnt quoted in your article. If it's free, then that's fabulous!

Nok Air in no way follows the Thai pricing structure. It would be a surprise if it did. It wasn't ''our article''. It's a media release.
