PHUKET police plan to intensify their hunt for a gang of killers who peppered a car with bullets, killing a Phuket property broker and her 20-year-old daughter in central Phuket on Saturday night.
A second daughter, Ananthira Anutathato, 15, who was in the back seat when the men struck about 10pm, is recovering in hospital from bullet wounds.
Police believe property broker Jreerati Narkmee, 41, who was being driven home from dinner in Phuket City by daughter Kiriyaporn Anutathato, 20, drew her own gun and fired several shots at the gang.
But a close examination of the vehicle, a white Nissan now parked at Thalang police station, shows at least one exit hole from the vehicle was too low to be effective.
Police have tagged 13 holes in the car, with some of the large holes indicating use of the
thai pradit, a unique local handgun that fires nine bullets at once.
Meanwhile, an expat neighbor close to Khun Jreerati's home in an estate not far from the Heroines Monument, has redoubled his efforts to sell his house.
The man, who witnessed the gun battle and killings on Saturday night as he worked in his garden cutting back trees, is thought to have placed his home on the market after it became evident that his neighbors had a serious problem with a gang of thugs.
Police say Saturday's shooting in the Baan Suan Yoojalern Project 1 in Pa Klok was the culmination of death threats made in an obvious, menacing fashion to Khun Jreerati.
Two months ago, hoodlums beat up the property broker and her elder daughter, damaging the family cars and threatening death. It is believed the expat neighbor put his property on the market around this time.
Khun Jreerati's husband is also believed to have left the family home after the death threats were made.
The number plates of the family's car, on view at the police station, show the final two digits had been covered front and back in gold leaf, in an endeavor to bring better luck.
