The view from the illegal road and traverse carved on a Phuket hill

Phuket Hillside Trailblazer Alarms Officials: Investigation Draws Blank So Far

Friday, August 1, 2014
PHUKET: The Royal Thai Navy, Chalong Council and Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak took to Phuket's hills yesterday in pursuit of illegal activity above the 80-metre height level.

Authorities in four-wheel drive vehicles followed a rough trail into the Nakkerd Hills where they found a trail had been blazed for three kilometres traversing a hill, taking in vistas across Chalong Bay and Rawai in southern Phuket.

While the officials encountered no individuals or heavy moving equipment, their suspicion is that the people who have carved out the trail up the hill and around it probably aim to clear a large tract of land for a hillside resort.

Residents who noted the unusual traffic up and down the hill informed Damrungtam complaints office officials about their suspicions.

Authorities are hoping the next lead will take them to the people involved.

until they stop informing local authorities about upcoming raids, it's highly unlikely they will ever catch anyone.

An Elliot Ness type approach is needed - exclude all local official and authorities from these kind of raids and you can be sure a lot more "Influentials" will be caught red handed.

That is, if that is the real objective here.

Is the chalong council/obor tor responseble for what is happening in their jurisdiction? if the answer is ...YES..than NCPO has to investigate, and take action, make sure that local government bodies work according the excisting laws! Install trustfull and competent people, with a NCPO observer to look and registrate behind it. Action! NCPO has so much human resources!

Not just trails but actual sealed roads with lights lead to completely finished housing above the 80m level behind the Temples in Karon. These roads and buildings have been constructed in the last couple of years.

It's always amazing that nobody spots these projects until they have occurred. Nelsonian eyes to dump trucks and diggers 'disappearing' into the hills seems to be the norm.
