Phuket Grenade Warning Left at 'Yellow' TV Office

A GRENADE was left in a shopping bag hanging from the front door at the yellow shirt ASTV office in Phuket City about 10am today.

Manager Janjira Sitabuth told Phuketwan that the grenade, believed to be of the M-67 variety, was taken away by police soon after.

''The grenade was in a small paper shopping bag found hanging on the door about 10am,'' she said.

Station chief Prasert Perngfu said there had never been any kind of problem on Phuket, but he took this as a warning. Staff were working normally today.

The incident is perhaps an indication that Phuket may not always be immune from the violence that has come with the red protest in Bangkok, which reached the two-month mark today.

However, the Phuket grenade was unexploded.

Some of the grenades delivered to government offices in Bangkok and on one occasion in the second-city of Chiang Mai have been fired or hurled in anger.

The ASTV office is in Soi Nimit Villa Soi1 in Phuket City, in the same lane as Buddy's Cafe and just a short walk from the Uptown Restaurant and the landmark Thavorn Grand Plaza nearby on Chana Charoen Road.

Yellow shirt protesters on Phuket have been campaigning at times for the army and police to actively push the red shirt protesters from their redoubt behind tyres and bamboo stakes in downtown Bangkok.

Some red shirt protesters from Phuket remain behind the barriers in Bangkok. However, Phuket is regarded as a yellow stronghold where supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy and the ruling Democrat Party of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva outnumber red supporters by a ratio of 10 to one.

Phuket is considered safe for tourists. The island has never been affected by the violence in Bangkok, or by the violence associated with the bitter insurgency in Thailand's southern provinces.

and how wonderful to see, as per usual, the brown uniforms contaminating and destroying any potential forensic evidence.

"Look - No Gloves!"....should be the tag for your photo.

The reds overstayed their welcome. By any standard.
