Let's hope they are just visitors and not long term stayers. Posted by Pete on August 24, 2010 18:34 Is this story newsworthy? "High season in low season."(?) Posted by peter rawai on August 24, 2010 21:43 Editor Comment: One of Phuketwan's prime concerns is the safety of Phuket residents and tourists. If someone suffers wounds requiring 20 stitches and a gun is discovered, then that raises serious issues about public safety. Once again, the fact this case involves expats highlights the problem among visitors. May not be the biggest story of the year (and BTW, they are 12-bore shotgun cartridges, not bullets), but that's one hell of a great pic of Joseph Patrick on the front page. Well done. Not well done, however, to "Treelover" and his/her observation that Winson is wearing a muay Thai T-shirt. May as well point out that Patrick has a Christian name as his surname and make assumptions from that, because we all know that you can never trust a man with two first names, right? Posted by Tanya Millibank on August 24, 2010 21:55 I was not concise enough in my musings about the guy in the Muay Thai T-shirt. My point being that if one is wearing a shirt from a specific gym then it is possible that he could indeed be a member of that gym. Drunk, incoherent, and brawling at 10:30am goes against the training regimen and discipline governing every credible Muay Thai gym. So were it to be known by the credible gym that a member lacked the basic discipline required to complete the program, or even to complete a sentence for the local constablury, they might feel that he was bringing down both the reputation of their gym and the sport in general. Posted by Treelover on August 25, 2010 12:51 Treelover, by your own (inaccurate) admission you were "...not concise enough in my musings about the guy in the Muay Thai T-shirt." Posted by Tanya Millibank on August 25, 2010 15:38 Think what could have been done with a gun at hand. Only three days ago two longtime Thai friends drunk late at night in Takuapa near Khaolak and one shot the other dead. It was called an accident. The one friend said, witnesses recalled, he do not want to live anymore and the other well respected but drunk friend told him, he could help. No, no joke. Posted by Phil Smith on August 25, 2010 18:00 Editor Comment: Phil, Just post us your bank cheque for 25,000 baht each month, and all your editing/reporting concerns will be overcome. You said the gun was found at the premises and is being investigated. Does this mean it was found in their rooms at the guest house or was it found somewhere else in the guest house? There would be more than 500 Baht fine if the gun belonged to a foreigner. Posted by Tbs on August 25, 2010 18:58 Editor Comment: Nobody is putting their hand up. Feel free to claim ownership if you wish. @tanya, a lot of people are on edge these days in regards to drunken foreigners fighting since a bit over a week ago two muay thai fighters had a bar brawl, and one was later stabbed and killed. get over yourself. negativity helps noone! Did you ever wonder that there is three sides to every story? Quit pointing fingers, three point back and this article is full of holes and untruths. Do you really believe the news. ignorance is bliss...think before you speak! Posted by johndoe on August 27, 2010 14:25 Editor Comment: Well johndoe, that really tells us all squat. Lots of discussions recently regarding the quality of the farangs that now inhabit the island. These two seem to be in the new majority.
Noticed that one of these blokes was wearing a Muay Thai T-shirt. Is this guy another blemish on what should be a noble and disciplined sport?
