Phuket Corruption Scam Revealed as Police Tell Pay-Off Woman 'There's No Deal'

Tuesday, March 19, 2013
PHUKET: Police are pursuing a woman who allegedly took money from the wife of an accused man to pervert the course of justice. She also told lies about Phuket officers, say police.

Papatsara Keawpaluk, according to Phuket City police, took 400,000 baht from Dongporn Lersub and told the woman she could prevent her husband being sent to jail over a ya ice drugs offence.

Khun Dongporn parted with 400,000 baht to pay off police and a prosecutor. The money was to prevent her husband, arrested in the bypass road in Phuket City on February 15, from being sentenced to jail.

On March 18, the 400,000 baht was transferred to Khun Papatsara's bank account. However, she immediately told Dongporn that she needed 300,000 baht more to pay police and the prosecutor.

Instead of doing as Khun Papatsara insisted, Khun Dongporn went to see one of the officers named, Lieutenant Prawit Engchon, at Phuket Police Station at 3.30pm yesterday.

He told her there had been no such payments, that Khun Papatsara had duped her, and that an arrest warrant would be issued for Khun Papatsara.
