Phuket-Bound VIP Bus Crashes: Two Dead

Tuesday, March 15, 2011
A YOUNG woman and a girl aged five have been killed in a crash on a VIP bus bound for Phuket.

The Phuket-bound bus clipped a 10-wheel truck carrying a containerload of shrimp as it rounded a bend in the province of Ranong, triggering a crash in which 12 people were also injured.

Police in Ranong told Phuketwan today that the VIP bus, with seating for 32, left Bangkok for Phuket about 5.30am yesterday and hit the truck about 4.20pm.

The truck had left Takuapa in Phang Nga, north of Phuket, heading for Samutprakarn.
A Ranong officer said the woman was aged 26 and believed to be from Bangkok.

Some of the injured were being treated at Ranong while others had been relayed to Phuket, he said.

A tour bus on a long-distance trip overturned on Phuket's Patong Hill last week, killing one man and injuring scores of other passengers.

Police are still looking for the driver.
