One person was admitted to Patong Hospital with minor burns and a second person was treated for smoke inhalation and allowed to leave, according to medics. The blaze started in a laundry and spread to the diner.
PHUKET: Guests were evacuated from a big Phuket resort in Patong today as smoke from a fire billowed over the top floors of the building.
The blaze in a ground floor restaurant at the Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa was quickly under control.
''Everybody is safe,'' a receptionist at the resort said at 2.10pm, about 20 minutes after the blaze began.
Graceland, in a prime location on Patong's beach road, recently expanded and added another wing, taking total rooms to 600.
The blaze was centred in a restaurant/canteen in the space between two long blocks of accommodation.
Although the smoke appeared to be coming from the wings, it was actually blowing over the accommodation from the ground-floor restaurant.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be established.
Most large resorts on Phuket's holiday west coast are nearing 100 percent capacity at this time of the high season.
Impressive reporting. We live opposite and went to see the source of the smoke & excitement. Just got back and here are the pictures and story already up.
Patong Firemen really on the ball and are amazed how quickly they dealt to what looked like a major fire that could be become very expensive damage to Gracelands.
Well done all round
