Phuket Bike Rider Dies As Songkran Danger Days Draw Near

Monday, April 1, 2013
PHUKET: A motorcycle rider who lost control in Phuket's main north-south road yesterday fell into the path of a truck-trailer and was killed.

Police named him as Win Phuay, a Burmese construction worker. The crash came in Thepkasattri Road not far from the Tesco Lotus outlet in Thalang.

Witness Soradtha Thanapatirangsan, 43, told police that Khun Win was overtaking another motorcyclist when he fell.

With the Songkran New year holiday drawing close, extra precautions are likely to be taken to try to reduce the number of deaths on Phuket's roads.

It's not known whether authorities are winning or losing the year-round battle to reduce fatalities and crashes.

No official statistics have been released for the road toll on Phuket for 2012 and no monthly updates have been released since last April, when Phuket Public Health ceased publishing figures.

Most of us like the relaxed way in Phuket, but driving back from Phang Nga yesterday the amount of speeding (mainly the Toyota model Commuter minibuses) there should be mobile speed cameras, Police enforce the law and revenue goes to the government and most important more of us stay alive and are not maimed. Please government do something. On the same journey ambulances were attending a multi motorbike crash and a car on the hill in the Chalong to Kata road, perhaps some peole died as it was serious.
