Illegal park restaurants and guesthouses being toppled at Nai Yang today

More Phuket Beach Clearances at Nai Yang, Nai Thon: Police to Act on Park Encroachment

Monday, July 14, 2014
PHUKET: Authorities demolished a line of restaurants near Nai Yang beach today and will turn their attention to Nai Thon beach tomorrow. Action will also begin tomorrow over suspected Sirinath National Park encroachment.

Police from Bangkok and forest rangers are to mount an action on Tuesday in relations to an area of 250 rai, the Director of Sirinath, Kittipat Tharapiban, said today.

''Details will be revealed tomorrow,'' he said.

Why police from Bangkok and not from the local station at Tachatchai?

''It is better to have Bangkok police involved,'' Khun Kittipat said. ''They can come to Phuket, do what they need to do, then go back to Bangkok.''

Action on disputed parkland follows a meeting yesterday with the Commander-in-Chief of The Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, who addressed some of Phuket's problems on a two-day visit.

He has said that he wants the parklands disputes wrapped up as soon as possible to avoid the 10 or 20 years that sometimes can be involved in court cases, Khun Kittipat said.

Two luxury resorts and a number of development properties are subject to investigation.

At Nai Yang today, several restaurants within the park were demolished, and more deconstruction is scheduled for Nai Thon tomorrow.

Talks with Phuket Land Titles officials about other Phuket property titles are also scheduled for tomorrow.

Can we have an effort to compost any suitable building materials instead of burning it or dumping it at the already overloaded incinerator? Let it degrade into the ground.

Whether composting, burning, dumping or burying, there is no difference except in appearance. Conservation of mass or energy laws state that neither can be created nor destroyed, however they can change form, state or phase.

Seems it would have been much easier to just burn the wooden structures rather than haul it off to an already overfull garbage facility.

The house, the house, the house is on fire' we don't need some water let the MF-er burn, burn MF-er BURN. And then reality sets in, the army leaves and we go back to normal business as before. No continuation of the law or follow ups?

They have not been sent to the garbage facility. Many of these bamboo structures are now being stored on different tracts of land near to the airport road, ready to be returned to the beach after the army leaves.

What about Nikki Beach Club one beach down? This monstrosity sits half on the beach and was in full swing last Sunday. Is there still corruption? Otherwise, how come they are still encroaching beach but all the little people and businesses have gone?

Nikki is legitimate while the smaller places are not.

No beds no bars - think tourists will now go to another place. Most tourists will not lie in the sand - but on a bed. and of course there are those who serve on the beach which makes it also is socially to be there.

@Corinna

While it is definitely a fun to be inside the Nikki Beach Club for Sunday brunch, it is certainly not so for those who at nearby locations at the same time.
Normally various kind of specific environmental issues as specific nose pollution norms for beaches are specified in municipal zoning rules. I guess the municipality failed here, and this time mostly by lack of professionalism, mince they simply do not regulate noise pollution at the levels of Nikki, and state regulation is only about much higher dB and night time.
