Tourist Andre identifies the Phuket beach thief

Beach Boys Nab Thief Who Stole From Tourist

Monday, April 29, 2013
PHUKET: The honor of Phuket's beach boys has been restored with the arrest of a thief who stole a Russian tourist's bag at a popular Phuket beach yesterday.

Alert beach boys at Nai Harn, in southern Phuket, spotted Niruj Indharat stealing the bag from a tourist whose name was given as Andre.

The 21-year-old thief, from Had Yai, had pretended to be a tourist before taking the bag.

Later, at Chalong Police station, Khun Niruj was charged. In the stolen bag were a Samsung mobile telephone, 1300 baht in cash and Andre's passport.

Nai Harn beach vendor Song Saengtong said it wasn't the first time that beach boys had had to defend their reputations.

''The beach boys are often accused when valuables disappear at the beach,'' he said. ''But when you think about it, their livelihoods depend on their honesty.

''The problem is that because Phuket's beaches are so crowded these days, it has become more difficult to keep a watch on everyone.""

Can't imagine it happening at Patong but can live in hope.

Nai Harn beach boys cannot even be mentioned in the breath as Patong beach thugs. Well done Men, we are lucky to have you on the beach keeping an eye on your livelihood and our property.

Well done to the "beach boys" of Nai Harn Beach. Did we ever get the name of the guy with the yellow towel, that was arrested, for theft on March 30 "Beach Thefts Blamed on Expat with Yellow Towel," I can't remember ever seeing if he was charged and, unusually, no name given.

anyone notice a lot of handbag thieves caught lately which is great news the small downside is so many are by citizen arrest more so than police detection do the police patrol beaches in effective numbers if at all we know the police chief wants 5000 more but its questionable justification when 2000 of them seem to be there for sit down money.
