Police raid a large house near Pattaya today for a Dutch fugitive

Pattaya Raid Nets Dutch Dope Dealer Wanted by Netherlands

Wednesday, July 23, 2014
PHUKET: An arrest warrant issued by the Netherlands resulted today in the apprehension of a man who allegedly has been selling large quantities of maijuana and may be involved in money laundering.

Johannes Petrus Maria van Laarhoven, 53, grew large amounts of marijuana indoors at his property near Pattaya, officials in Thailand said today.

The business of shipping and selling the marijuana to the Netherlands netted between 400 million and 800 million baht a year, according to Department of Special Investigation and National Anti-Money Laundering Office officials.

Gold and two guns were found on the property, valued at about 100 million baht, where Mr van Laarhoven was held today.

The sale of majijuana in the Netherlands is legal but only with government approval.

Weed has never killed anyone ( unlike alcohol ), OH..except in modern states like Singapore or Malaysia where a joint can get you killed. When will certain places wake up to the fact that "Reefer Madness" was propaganda made by alcohol-swilling, cigarette-smoking, coffee drinkers that frequently took sleeping pills to relax..

The Netherlands is the weed growing capital of central Europe. Sadly another off the wall story from PW. Sad day.

We know the facts, gee. And the Bangkok Post and The Nation, along with Thai Visa of course, seem to be in agreement 24 hours later. Who is off their face, us - or you? Clearly, you can't get anything right.

Quite a few houses in Pattaya reach 100M THB tag.

Hang on.. they are alleging he grew the weed in Pattaya.. Then smuggled it, out of Thailand, presumably by air, to Holland.. When its worth many multiples as much in Thailand as it is in Holland. While the penalty for growing it here is so extreme and the penalty in Holland so mild.

None of that makes any logical sense.

According to a Dutch paper I just checked, Dutch police asked for information from Thai police, not (yet) for him to be arrested. He is suspected of importing weed into the Netherlands, so not for growing it there (seems strange to me so could be incorrect), money laundering, corruption, tax fraud.

Most people know it's the Netherlands.

"Most people know it's the Netherlands."

So? LivinLos said 'The man concerned was arrested for growing weed without a license in holland', which is not what the Dutch/Netherlands/Holland paper said.

Indeed. No need to say it again.
