The six women, including three sisters, being interviewed in Patong today

Patong Six Accused of Possessing Drugs Used in Drink Spike Thefts

Tuesday, November 1, 2011
PHUKET: Six women who work in Phuket bars have been spiking the drinks of expat tourists to knock them unconscious, then robbing them, police believe.

The six women have been targetting less experienced men in Patong, Phuket's best-known nightlife destination, befriending them in bars then taking them to local karaokes where their drinks were spiked, police allege.

The women aged 18 to 45 - three of them sisters - were being questioned intensively at Kathu Police Station in Patong today about their possession of a restricted drug that is blamed for incidents of spiking.

The drug the women were allegedly using has a similar effect to the better known Rohypnol, which is often used in spiking cases or ''date rape'' in the West.

The women were arrested about 9pm last night and have yet to explain how they came into possession of the drug.

Although anecdotal reports have instanced cases where tourists have been doped and robbed, no allegations have been made in relation to any of the six women being interviewed today.

Maybe not a good idea for all of Patong's plain clothes officers to have been photographed at the press conference, 555!! Big checkpoint in operation on Nanai Road last night saw at least two people lifted and all motorbikes appeared to be getting searched. One person made a dash to chuck something in a drain but the cops were too quick for her. her second mistake was to gob off at the cops - the rebuttal made interesting viewing and listening - good job there was nothing on tv last night.

I wonder just how rife this problem is in Patong. Im afraid to admit that i myself got drugged and robbed just two months ago after i meet a girl down Soi Sansabi. I finally came to 18 hours later to find my 60,000 bht gold bracelet and 10,000 baht in money gone. When i checked the glass i had been drinking out of there was a white powder residue in it. Looking at your picture i don't recognise any of those women as being the one that drugged me so there are more out there . Maybe the police want to do their next bust down Soi Sansabi. I didnt report it as I had hoped to try and catch the women at a later date as i am not one of the inexperienced tourists having lived in Patong for 8 years. I should have known better i agree and it was my own fault in some ways knowing the risk as i was drugged a few years ago in a bar down soi seadragon but that time i realised straight away something was wrong and made a hasty retreat home to wake up nearly two days later. I believe there should be more awareness made about this problem i'm sure there are a lot more people like myself who have not reported to the police when they have been drugged. I know after it happened to me several of my friends said they had experienced something similar over the last few years.

Happened to me too only 3 weeks ago. I believe it was in Bangla Road, not sure what soi. Woke up behind a back street in the late afternoon around 6 p.m., no idea how I got there, all my money, my watch and my apartment key gone. Must have been a lady. First thing I did was change the lock on my apartment... Fortunately they didn't get there before me. This happens at least once every single night in Patong. The only way to stop it is to NEVER LET YOUR DRINK out of your sight. If it tastes strange or seems to have some residue in it, leave it and buy another. In some cases, this drug can be fatal and stop your breathing especially when you are drunk already. Combined with a good dose of alcohol, it's a killer.

I think no matter if you can't remember any thing,or you suspect your drink has been tampered with. You should report it to the police, even the next day. If no one reports these things happening how can the police do any thing.
