Sublime sunsets disguise the dangers of Cape Promthep for anglers

Lost Phuket Angler Swept Away, Then Swept Back

Tuesday, May 10, 2011
SUNSET at Phuket's popular scenic Cape Promthep this evening was tinged with sadness as police and rescue workers attempted to recover the body of a fisherman.

Artist and amateur angler Preecharat Tongdee, 52, was swept from the rocks on Saturday about 9pm. A big wave carried him away, to the horror of his four companions.

Since then Marine Police and Kaimuk Foundation volunteers have been searching for Khun Preecharat's body.

Today's monsoon conditions carried him back close to the spot where he was washed off the rocks three days ago, but big waves continued to make recovery of the body difficult.

Rocks fishermen on Phuket are not obliged by law to wear lifejackets.
