The store shore: 7-Eleven boats have been taken off the beaches in Krabi

Krabi 7-Eleven Boats Ruled Illegal

Tuesday, December 23, 2014
PHUKET: Five fishermen who boldly became entrepreneurs and created ''7-Eleven'' longtail boats that brought shopping at sea to Krabi have been fined 1000 baht each, it was announced today.

Sail 'n shop was an idea that did not float the boat of Damrungtam Krabi complaints office chief Theera Chucherd or the people in charge of Krabi's national parks.

A complaint to the Damrungtam office on December 12 accused the ''7-Eleven'' longtail boats of charging excessively high prices.

When officials investigated, they found that the prices were reasonable but that it was illegal for the fishermen to be operating on the shores of Railay Bay, in a marine park zone.

Krabi's beaches have been cleared of umbrellas and sunbeds this month, too.

There is speculation that as the longtails off Patong are not operating in a national park, the idea could provide Phuket with answers to its problems of keeping tourists and beach vendors happy while still obeying the law.

Meanwhile, the ''7-Eleven'' fishermen in Krabi will go back to fishing.

It is absolutely nothing good to have long-tail boats on the beach.
Railay beach is complete disaster as it is densily covered with long-tail boats and oil leaks 9-5 everyday.
I wonder why people shoukd stay Rayavadee if their only swimming is always occupied in such manner, so they have to watch from concrete elevation by the pool. Moreover most expensive villas of Rayavadee are facing that disaster.

Phuket beaches do not long tail boats parked in addition to other problems.Let's look at Freedom beach that is close by disaster scale to Railay beach, it's almost as full with long-tail boats as Railay.

No way that Patong beach would ever be allowed to be blighted by 7-11 longtails! But I expect to see 7-11 jetskis launch any day now. Or how about 7-11 parasailors? They could land with ease anywhere right on the beach, conveniently close to sunbathers in need of a drink or a snack! High prices of a different sort...

How come Krabi seems to be able to regulate AND ENFORCE regulations? No jet skis or beach business. It's just a rhetorical question...I know why. And please Phuket Wan, stop giving them ideas.

I joked about floating sunbeds being towed by jet skis, as being a legal way around this disaster of no planning.
Then I wrote.
P.S sorry Ed; for the previous comment, someone in the government will think this is a really good idea.
2 days later, they are on to it. They must read PW
