PHUKET: A badly injured and possibly mistreated slow loris is being treated at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project centre on Phuket. The project's Facebook site reports: This very poorly and severely malnourished little loris from Patong was brought to the DNP (Department of National Parks) at Bang Pae waterfall yesterday (Thursday). The DNP brought the slow loris to GRP to receive emergency first aid; she has had her front teeth cut down to the nerves and this has resulted in badly infected jowls, she has a long wound on her back and her left ear has been cut off.
The treatment of protected slow lorises by photo touts has become a hot issue since pop star Rihanna posted a ''selfie'' with one of the cuddly creatures on Instagram. Several arrests have since been made. Funding for a Phuket rescue centre is being sought.
What a lovely place Phuket is...
