PHUKET: A fisherman drowned on a northern Phuket beach yesterday after suffering what police believe was an epileptic fit. The man was a local resident in Mai Khao, and known to suffer from fits. He was found in the shallows about 12.15pm and could not be revived.

Really Matt I would imagine your comment would be academic and superfluous to the fish man concerned family and friends, they may have other issues at this time aside from what you think choice of grammar should be in written reports, small minded petty & most inappropriate in the circumstances. Those with epilepsy would surely prefer the term "seizure" to "fit".

You may be ahead of the pack on political correctness, whereas PW tends to resist those kinds of peculiar tortured constraints. The dictionary does not support your theory. I suspect that either is equally unpleasant.
fit: a sudden, acute attack or manifestation of a disease, especially one marked by convulsions or unconsciousness:
a fit of epilepsy.
Do I need to mention your habit of petty point-scoring again?
