CRACKS and falling plaster are highlighting the age of Phuket's Provincial Hall, where a renovation is urgently required to the 104-year-old building.
Phuket's Governor Tri Augkaradacha was shown some of the more recent signs of the need for repairs to day. Because Phuket's Provincial Hall is on the register of historic buildings, Thailand's Fine Arts Department will have to approve repairs.
The building will ultimately be replaced by a new construction, planned nearby, but the budget has yet to be approved.
The elegant old Provincial Hall, cool and ''colonial'' in style, has 99 rooms and is the administrative centre for Phuket. It is based in Phuket City, near the Governor's residence and other administrative offices.
Once the new Provincial Hall is built, the old building will become a Phuket museum.
