The table with the whisky and Coke in the Bangla Suites apartment

British Man Dies in Posh Patong Bangla Suites

Monday, February 21, 2011
A BRITISH man has been found dead at a posh apartment in the heart of Patong's Soi Bangla.

A maid discovered the body of the man, slumped on a white sofa, at about 6pm yesterday at Absolute Bangla Suites. Patong police believe he had been dead for about two days.

The man was aged 76. Police believe there were no suspicious circumstances.

Photographs of the scene show the man lying on a white sofa - the decor of the suites is vivid red, white and black. He is wearing a white singlet and tan shorts. His feet, clad in white shoes and socks, are on a small red carpet mat under a coffee table.

On the table is a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label, an opened can of Coca-Cola, and an empty glass. A portion of both the whisky and the Coke have been consumed.

Also on the table are a couple of magazines, and a wristwatch. The man's zipper is undone, as if he has sat down to relax alone with a drink.

Records show he arrived on Phuket on February 13. Phuketwan has been given the man's name, but will withhold publication until relatives have been notified.

The body is in Patong Hospital.

That's what happens when you drink Red instead of Black...

And never take your watch off at the same time you sit on a white sofa when you have your zipper down; that's just asking for it.

Can't be that posh if he was drinking Johnnie Walker Red.

That stuff is terrible.

Gold or Blue Label are the only drinkable whiskey that company makes.

They might want to check the contents of that bottle since Red Label is heavily counterfeited across Asia.

I think one reason for a surprising (to some) amount of deaths among the male foreigners in Phuket could very well be the combination of several factors

Coming from colder climates, most are not used to the heat which is particularly taxing for the heart.

Excessive alcohol use, sometimes in combination with Viagra which quantifies the stress to the heart.

Men in their advanced years often have underlying medical conditions they may or may not even be aware of.

I'm not saying these would necessarily apply in this case but perhaps these points are worth considering before the conspiracy theories come out.

It may be an idea to change the caption under your photo 'The table with the whisky and Coke' to 'The table with the whisky and Cola'. I do not think you are promoting soft drinks but I did initially think the death was drug related.

What is this novel like detailed description of everything around this poor man??s death? "Also on the table are a couple of magazines, and a wristwatch. The man's zipper is undone, as if he has sat down to relax alone with a drink." This is not journalism. Assuming things around something that no one really has any facts yet! Is that necessary? And of course the police always, every time at the first glance say that there are no suspicious circumstances... Is this the real life or is this just fantasy...

Because you haven't paid your subscription, Stan. We've changed our policy and will no longer print unwarranted criticism. For a long time now, we've been prepared to publish all kinds of unfair and unreasonable criticism. Now that Thai Visa has a forum about Phuketwan's editor, you can complain about me there.

First of all, RIP to the poor soul who lost his life in Bangla.

Editor, the TV forum discussion has now been shut down, so I'm afraid that avenue of editor bashing is now closed!

Tell me Stan, how many other people do you trust to correct your grammar on a daily basis and make sense of your sometimes erratic comments, then insult at every opportunity? I guess it's just me: one of a kind, as you say.
