Loaded and ready to roll, Phuket sends vital goods off to help Japan

Boxed with Love, Phuket Sends Aid to Japan

Monday, March 28, 2011
UPDATE

THE LOVE Aid Phuket concert has been postponed, according to the Phuket Gazette. The organisers appear to be selective in how they release information and have not sent a media release to Phuketwan. Our first response to one organiser, on being told about the concert, after the news of the then 100 baht-a-ticket concert first appeared in the Gazette online, was ''What's Plan B if it rains?'' We did not get a reply.

On Monday evening the Gazette reports: ''In a formal announcement this afternoon, organizers said the decision had been made due to 'unseasonal weather affecting the region'.''

Original Report

HUNDREDS of boxes are being loaded on to a truck, sponsored by the Third Naval Area Command. All the boxes are donated goods from the people of Phuket, both Thais and foreigners.

The boxes will be transported to Japan to help Japanese Tsunami and earthquake victims. The truck should arrive at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok tomorrow morning.

Phuket's heart is too big to fit into one truck. So, tomorrow morning the Third Naval Area Command is sending another truck to transport the rest of the donated goods to the same destination.

On behalf of Bangkok Hospital Phuket, I would like to thank you for your generous support. Your commitment to helping Japanese victims is sincerely appreciated.

''No one has ever become poor by giving.''
