Georges C. Sirre, 56, after his arrest on Phuket this week

Belgian Sex Offender Arrested on Phuket, Swede Also Nabbed

Tuesday, November 19, 2013
PHUKET: A Belgian man convicted of sex offences on children was rearrested on Phuket yesterday.

Officers at Immigration headquarters in Phuket City are holding him there with an American and a Swede.

.. Belgian Georges C. Sirre, 56, was arrested yesterday at Resident Village in Rawai. He had been sentenced to 18 months jail but was released on a five-year good behavior bond in Belgium.

It's believed he has broken the terms of the bond by leaving Belgium. The original sentence was for offences involving the assault of females under 14 and including three children aged 11 or younger.

Sirre was granted a non-B visa on August 12 last year. He is said to be a longtime Phuket expat.

.. As previously reported, fitness instructor Forrest Wayne, 41, is to be extradited to Houston, where he faces charges of the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. According to a Houston news report, a tip-off led to his arrest in Patong earlier this week.

.. Swede Johan Daniel Wetzelmary, 32, was first arrested in Hua Hin on August 22 over a motorcycle theft and was apprehended for overstaying his visa on Phuket on November 5.

Hua Hin police are due to take him back there.

Wetzelmary was granted entry to Thailand on July 24 and it expired on August 22. Wayne entered Thailand on November 1 and was due to leave before November 30.

Tomorrow Wayne and Sime are to be transported to Bangkok where extradition proceedings will continue.

The govt says they want high class tourist. Maybe then they should do more checks on everyone coming in as currently it appears they let everyone in from rich countries who havw a valid Passport. OK if that's what they want and the people want but don't say you want high class tourists unless you are prepared to do something about it. Every country wants high class tourists.

Well, no. Not "every country wants high class tourists".

Most countries do not discriminate based on wealth, which is how TAT continues to define "quality tourists"

It would be logical to assume keeping out criminals is what such statements mean but that does not seem to be the case.

It is not possible to have a watertight system keeping all undesirables out. Even North Korea does not succeed in this and they sure do their best to achieve it.

I'm happy they apprehended these men but I hope they would go after the locals who provide victims to these predators.

Pedophiles do not choose Thailand by accident.
