PHUKET: Reports that an arrest had been made in the case of the Koh Tao tourist murders were false, Region 8 Police Commander Major General Panya Mamen said today.
''We are continuing to question a man but no accusations have been made,'' he said. ''We have two people in mind and one of them is being interviewed.''
British tourists Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were bludgeoned to death in a small cove at a beach on the holiday island of Koh Tao, where their bodies were found early last Monday.
Several promising leads have been abandoned by investigators as DNA testing has cleared a number of suspects.
Latest hopes for finding the killer or killers rest with interviews with an island resident who has connections to the owner of a bar at which Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were seen drinking before they were killed.
Major General Panya said that he hopes to be able to announce an arrest before the end of the week.

So first having blamed Burmese workers, then British friends of the deceased, and not even considering it could possibly be a Thai, it now looks like the prime suspects are the sons of a local village headman.
How interesting....
What a tragic waste of such young lives, let's hope the killers are caught and this acts as a deterrent to others.

Isn't that how cases normally unfold? There's a prime suspect, and if they have an alibi or can be cleared, someone else is called in for questioning. It would have made sense to Sherlock Holmes.
