PHUKET: A new provincial administrative centre is to be built in Phuket City at a cost of 450 million baht on 52 rai of government land opposite the Suan Luan park, Phuketwan has learned.
Preparatory work is underway and construction begins mid-July with a completion deadline of 995 days.
The building will be of five storeys with enough space for amalgamation of some key departments and a meeting room for up to 1000 people.
Space has been reserved nearby for an Administrative Court.
Plans to replace the existing 106-year-old Phuket Provincial Hall have been on-hold since residents objected to the original choice of new sites that would have required the replacement of tennis courts and the loss of parkland opposite the existing building.
The old Phuket Provincial Hall, built in colonial style although Thailand was never colonised, is likely to be preserved and adapted as a museum.

That money would be better spent training the inept and replacing those of the idle/corrupt staff. What a waste.
