Phuket Gains Anantara Vacation Club, Bangkok Wins AVANI Brand

Thursday, June 27, 2013
PHUKET: Minor Hotel Group's timeshare concept, Anantara Vacation Club, has opened its first purpose-built resort in Phuket.

The new Anantara Vacation Club Phuket Mai Khao comprises 70 one, two and three-bedroom apartment suites and 30 one- and two-bedroom pool villas. Resort facilities include an Anantara Spa, fitness centre, lagoon-style swimming pool, kids' club and three restaurants and bars.

''We are very excited to open our first purpose-built resort here in Thailand. Being such a key location in Asia for shared ownership resorts, Phuket was the obvious choice of destination for our first signature property, which offers the ultimate guest experience for our owners,'' said Harold Derrah, CEO of Anantara Vacation Club.

Set in a six-storey complex, the apartment suites will measure between 94 and 128 square metres and all feature private balconies with garden and pool views.

Eight 209 square metres two-bedroom apartment suites also include private plunge pools while two 346 square metres three-bedroom units come with large private swimming pools.

The 30 pool villas meanwhile, range from 195 to 265 square metres and include private pool, outdoor showers, salas with daybeds, and indoor and outdoor dining furniture.

The new Phuket resort Anantara Vacation Club resort joins the portfolio's existing collection of private villas on the islands in Koh Samui and Bali, plus suites in Bangkok, Sanya and Queenstown.

Minor Hotel Group, a hotel owner with 87 properties in operation across twelve countries, has also announced the first AVANI hotel in Thailand.

Currently operating as the Amari Atrium Bangkok, MHG will take over the management contract of the 568 key hotel from October 1.

AVANI Hotels & Resorts is the vibrant new upscale hotel brand which was launched by MHG in 2011 to complement the group's five star Anantara brand.

AVANI offers relaxed comfort and contemporary style in city and resort destinations to guests who value the details that matter.

Currently with two AVANI resorts in operation, both in Sri Lanka, MHG has plans to grow the brand across Asia, India and the Indian Ocean and in the Middle East.

Two additional resorts will join the portfolio later this year, in Quy Nhon, Vietnam and in Sepang, Malaysia.

Located in New Petchburi Road, a busy commercial and retail area in the Asoke-Sukhumvit area of the Thai capital, the 23-storey property makes an ideal base for business or leisure travellers.

Centred on a 12-storey atrium lobby, the hotel offers two Executive Floors, along with Deluxe and Superior guest rooms.

Facilities at the hotel include a selection of restaurants and bars, a swimming pool and sun deck, a fitness centre, a ballroom and additional meetings and events space.

The property will undergo an extensive renovation including guest rooms and public areas prior to being rebranded as AVANI in 2014.

Dillip Rajakarier, chief executive, Minor Hotel Group, commented: ''We are very excited to announce our first AVANI in Thailand and also to enter into this partnership with the GP Group.

''Taking over the management of this well established city centre hotel will be a great launch platform for our new AVANI brand here in Bangkok.''
