Phuket's Hulks Fail in Bid for Road Kill

Phuket's Hulks Fail in Bid for Road Kill

Saturday, April 23, 2011
UPDATE

FC PHUKET was thrashed 2-5 by Bangkok FC on Sunday night in its heaviest defeat to date in Division One. Fifth-ranked Phuket started hot favorite against the 16th-placed team. A succession of bad losses in games played away from Phuket City's Surakul Stadium is likely to lead to calls for coaching changes.

Original Report

FC PHUKET needs to win a key game against Bangkok FC on Sunday to end its run of losses on the road.

The Phuket ''Hulks'' have performed well at home in Phuket City, yet failed dismally away from home.

Going into Sunday's game, FC Phuket lies fifth on the table, starting a strong favorite over 16th-placed Bangkok FC. A win could take them to third place, and strong contention for promotion from Division One at season's end.

FC Phuket has 14 points, trailing the leading teams that are on 21 points.

Phuket's 4-0 win at home over Chiang Mai last weekend, though, shows they are not the only team that struggles for points on the road.

Every game is becoming make or break now for Phuket's ''Hulks.'' As the season deepens, every point is critical.

Phuket may eventually find it helpful that the game against Songkla had to be postponed because of flooding. It could give them an edge as the season closes.

While the team has some stars and is capable of being competitive against the best in the division, the psychological barrier is the big hurdle that has to be confronted and crossed on Sunday.

Hi,

Any news why the match has been suspended?

Editor Comment:

As we've previously reported, the Songkhla match was postponed because of the flooding last month and has yet to be rescheduled.

Sorry, I was talking about yesterday's match with Bangkok FC. I was aware that was suspended too at 5 minutes before the end, isn't it?

Editor Comment:

The match was called off seven minutes early because of heavy rain.
