Slippery dip for a Phuket player in hot competition for the ball tonight

Phuket FC v Top Side: Photo Album

Sunday, August 26, 2012
PHUKET: The reshaped football team that is Phuket FC rather than FC Phuket proved tonight that there's more to the change than flipping a couple of words.

Performing on the big stage - a very wet pitch at Surakul Stadium in Phuket City - the very wet Phuket Islanders held the best team in Division One to a 1-0 win.

If victory can ever be claimed in defeat, then Phuket can claim to have not really lost, but not quite won either.

Given that Ratchaburi Mitrphol FC is nine points clear at the top of the table and Phuket is in 10th spot, few of the 1000 fans at the stadium in Phuket City could go home complaining.

The goal came in the first half but Phuket performed so well that, although players were slipping all over the ground surface, the result was never going to slide to a 3-0 defeat of the kind that Ratchaburi inflicted back in May.

As a measure of intensity, two players, one from each side, were red-carded and sent off.

The dramatic improvement in the Islander's form, together with pleasing consistency, may produce another victory next weekend in Phuket City when Phuket FC face the more mortal Nakorn Ratchasima, who are currently in seventh spot.
